Filament, printers and the parts you make

How we review products

A review should help you decide whether a product suits the job, not give you another reason to doubt the description on the box.

We identify the actual product

The grade, colour, diameter and pack are part of the result. A test of grey PLA is not a test of every filament a brand sells. We also distinguish a complete spool from a refill, and a manufacturer’s specification from something measured in a print.

We keep the awkward results

Failed features stay in the record. When something goes wrong, we explain what happened and what we can reasonably conclude from it. We do not replace an unsuccessful attempt with a better one and leave out the extra work.

If a test shape needs changing, the revised version gets its own method record. Results from different versions are not quietly treated as interchangeable.

Scores have a stated meaning

Our five-point scoring guide sets out what each rating covers. The best product in a group does not automatically get five stars, and tied scores are allowed. Price and commission do not alter a measurement or a performance score.

Retailer links and supplied products

The retailer links currently on this site are ordinary links; they do not earn us affiliate commission. If we add commission-paying links, we will identify them. A free sample, loan or other relevant commercial arrangement will be disclosed in the affected review.

Buying advice uses the price for the relevant country and pack. Delivery charges, refill requirements and bundle sizes can change which offer is worth taking.
